Valerie Mayes serves as deputy executive commissioner of Policy and Quality for Medicaid and CHIP Services. In this role, she is responsible for providing strategic direction and oversight of policy and quality for Medicaid and CHIP.
Mayes has 14 years of experience in policy analysis, development and implementation for health care, social service and nonprofit programs.
She joined HHSC in 2008 as a Medicaid and CHIP policy analyst and held various leadership roles within HHSC, including director positions in Medicaid and CHIP program and eligibility policy, cross-division coordination and nonprofit social service program.
She earned a Bachelor of Arts from Mount St. Mary’s University and a Master of Public Policy from Johns Hopkins University. She is also a graduate of the HHS Executive Leadership Academy.
