HHSC protects children by regulating and educating child care providers. Child Care Regulation is comprised of two program areas: Residential Child Care Regulation and Day Care Regulation.
Residential Care Child Regulation staff process applications, issue permits, conduct inspections and investigations, submit regulatory enforcement referrals to Child Care Facility Enforcement, and conduct other regulatory activities related to child-placing agencies and general residential operations.
Day Care Child Regulation staff process applications, issue permits, conduct inspections and investigations, submit regulatory enforcement referrals to Child Care Facility Enforcement, and conduct other regulatory activities related to child care operations.
Day Care Child Regulation has an Unregulated Operations Unit that identifies child care operations operating without a permit and guides them through the permit process. The unit also facilitates community outreach efforts to parents, potential providers and the public on the benefits of choosing regulated child care.
