Other Projects Focused on Quality and Efficiency

HHSC has launched two initiatives to hold quarterly calls with managed care organizations and providers respectively in Texas. These meetings are a follow-up of the one-on-one individual Quality Improvement meetings the Office of Value-Based Initiatives previously held regularly with each MCO.

The Perinatal Advisory Council develops and recommends criteria for designating levels of neonatal and maternal care.

The STAR Kids Managed Care Advisory Committee advises HHSC on the establishment and implementation of the STAR Kids Medicaid managed care program.

The State Medicaid Managed Care Advisory Committee provides recommendations and ongoing input to the Health and Human Services Commission on the statewide implementation and operation of Medicaid managed care.

The Health Informatics Services and Quality team focuses on advancing the use of technology for collection, dissemination and exchange of structured and formatted health data by Medicaid providers to improve health outcomes for clients.

Advancements in statewide health information exchange (HIE) have allowed Texas health care providers to securely exchange health information. This has increased the coordination and quality of care while improving efficiency in the health care system and increasing consumer empowerment and control.

The Health and Human Services Commission Executive Council is established by Government Code, Section 531.0051, to receive public input and advise the HHSC Executive Commissioner regarding the operation of the commission.

HHSC offers screening and diagnostic services through its Breast and Cervical Cancer Services program.
