The Code of Professional Conduct of the National Association of the Deaf (NAD) and the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf, Inc. (RID), has been adopted by HHSC Rules to govern the professional conduct of interpreters/transliterators certified by HHSC.

BEI Statutes & Rules

HHS Board for Evaluation of Interpreters (BEI) certification program is responsible for testing and certifying the skill level of individuals seeking to become certified interpreters in Texas. This page lists the certificates awarded by the BEI.

Each BEI certificate holder must earn a total of 10 continuing education units (100 clock hours) during the five-year certification period in the amounts and topics as stipulated in the following to be eligible for recertification.

A certificate holder must renew the certificate annually by paying the annual certificate renewal fee to Texas HHS Deaf and Hard of Hearing Services before the expiration date. This page lists the requirements for certiicate renewal.
