Medicaid Reimbursement for Supportive Palliative Care in Texas and Other States - 2022

Senate Bill (S.B.) 916, 86th Texas Legislature, Regular Session, 2019, authorizes the Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC) to conduct a study to assess potential improvements to a patient’s quality of care, health outcomes, and anticipated cost savings to the state from supporting the use of or providing Medicaid reimbursement to certain Medicaid recipients for supportive palliative care (SPC).

Outcomes of Non-Physician Mental Health Professionals - 2022

Texas Education Code, Subchapter E, Section 8.152 directs Local Mental Health Authorities/Local Behavioral Health Authorities to employ an NPMHP to serve as a mental health and substance use resource for school districts located in the region served by a regional Education Service Center and in which the LMHA/LBHA provides services and requiring HHSC to submit an annual report on the outcomes for school districts and students resulting from the services provided by the non-physician mental health professionals.

MHFA is an evidence-based curriculum used to teach individuals how to help someone who may be developing a mental health problem or experiencing a mental health crisis. Health and Safety Code, Section 1001.205(b) requires HHSC to report data on the number of persons trained in MHFA and a detailed accounting of expenditures.

The Pediatric Acute-Onset Neuropsychiatric Syndrome Advisory Council legislative report provides recommendations on practice guidelines for the diagnosis and treatment of PANS, clinical awareness and education regarding PANS among physicians, and outreach strategies to increase educators’ and parents’ awareness of PANS.
