The HHS Centralized Background Check Unit is required to do background checks to find out if a person has a criminal history or an abuse and neglect history that might be a risk to the health and safety of children. Background checks are required for Child Care providers, Residential Child Care providers, and Foster and adoptive homes.

QMP helps address conditions in Texas nursing facilities (NFs) that could be detrimental to the health, safety and welfare of residents. QMP is not a regulatory program and quality monitors do not cite deficient practices.

HHS, in collaboration with The University of Texas Steve Hicks School of Social Work, will host an informative two-day, free conference on quality in long-term care.
