  • Support women during a normal breastfeeding experience; identify experiences that are not the norm and make appropriate referrals
  • Teach classes on the advantages of breastfeeding and the management of normal breastfeeding experiences

  • Required commitment to work 20 hours per week, both in-person and telecommuting.

  • Complete Healthcare Provider Reports for situations requiring referral and/or communication with OB/GYN and/or Pediatrician.
  • Perform referrals.
  • Issue breast pumps and breastfeeding supplies.
  • Provide curbside services for breast pumps (pick-ups and returns).
  • Ensure documentation of all client encounters is adequate, accurate, complete, and signed off in a timely manner.
  • Monitor and respond timely to daily inbound referrals.
  • Use employed technology to communicate with clients via e-mail, texting, soft phones, and virtual meeting rooms with camera on.
  • Abide by all City of Austin, WIC, Austin Public Health, Mom’s Place, and grant policies, procedures, and systems.
  • Attend daily virtual Huddles.
  • Provide front desk support.

  1. Assess income and nutritional needs to determine eligibility for WIC Program according to Federal, State, and Local policies and procedures.  
  2. Deliver group and individual nutrition and breastfeeding education according to agency approved Nutrition Education Plan.
  3. Perform participant income and health screenings which includes obtaining ID, residency, and health history, measuring height, weight and length of WIC client and plotting on growth grid, calculating income and BMI, performing finger stick and determining conditions of nutritional need.
  4. Prescribe supplemental food package, assess need for breastfeeding pumps and supplies, and issues in accordance with Federal, State and Local policies and procedures.  
  5. Screen immunization record to obtain immunization status.
  6. Refer participants to appropriate community, health and human service resources as needed.
  7. Issue and maintain inventory of returned formula, breastpumps and supplies, and educational material according to policy.
  8. Participate in assigned health fairs, community events and projects and makes presentations to groups as assigned. 
  9. Prepare bulletin boards with nutrition messages according to agency approved Nutrition Education Plan.
  10. Perform other duties as assigned.
