HHSC Offers Resources for Breast Reconstruction Advocacy and Education Day

March 21 marks Breast Reconstruction Advocacy and Education (BRAVE) Day in Texas. Designated by the Texas Legislature in 2017, the day honors those affected by breast cancer and supports efforts to educate survivors about recovery options.

In Texas, breast cancer is the most common cancer diagnosis for women. Last year an estimated 19,921 women in Texas were diagnosed with breast cancer, according to the Texas Department of State Health Services.

Through its Breast and Cervical Cancer Services program, HHSC provides funding to clinics throughout Texas that provide screening and diagnostic services for women.

Women with a low income and no insurance who have been diagnosed with breast cancer may be eligible for the Medicaid for Breast and Cervical Cancer (MBCC) program, which covers cancer treatments. MBCC can also cover breast reconstruction for eligible women.
