The San Antonio State Hospital (SASH) is an in-patient psychiatric hospital. We offer adult psychiatric services and forensic competency restoration. 

The Office of the State Forensic Director (OSFD) works at the intersection of behavioral health and justice systems to improve the statewide coordination and oversight of forensic services and prevent justice-involvement for people with mental illness, substance use disorders, and/or intellectual and developmental disabilities.

The substance use disorder Community Health Worker (CHW) programs allow community health workers and promotor(a) to increase linkage and retention in substance use, mental health, and medical services for Texas residents living with substance use disorders.

General academic requirements for admission are those specified by the American Society of Clinical Pathology Board of Certification for eligibility to sit for the Medical Laboratory Scientist exam.

The Austin State Hospital (ASH) Medical Laboratory Science (MLS) Program is an integral part of the Regional Clinical Laboratory (RCLA) at Austin State Hospital (ASH). The state hospital is a facility within the Health and Specialty Care System of the Texas Health and Human Services agency. The laboratory is located in building 635 on the Austin State Hospital campus.

A Recovery Oriented System of Care (ROSC) is a coordinated network of community-based services and supports that is person-centered and builds on the strengths and resiliencies of individuals, families, and communities to achieve abstinence and improved health, wellness, and quality of life for those with or at risk of alcohol and drug problems.

HHSC and the Texas Veterans Commission partner to administer the Mental Health Program for Veterans, which provides peer-to-peer counseling to service members, veterans and their families through local mental health authorities and local behavioral health authorities across the state.

Information for and about Substance Use Disorder Service Providers

The Projects for Assistance in Transition from Homelessness program funds community-based outreach, mental health and substance use referral/treatment, case management and other supportive services as well as providing a limited set of housing services for adults who are homeless or at imminent risk of becoming homeless.

Crisis units are facilities designed to treat an individual's symptoms of mental illness in the community.

A hotline is continuously available phone service operated by trained and competent crisis staff that provides information, screening and intervention, support, and referrals to callers 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Any local mental health authority (LMHA) or local behavioral health authority (LBHA) providing hotline services for any portion of the day must be accredited by the American Association of Suicidology.
