About Us
Rio Grande State Center is a state hospital that offers inpatient adult psychiatric services and out-patient healthcare, including primary care, women’s health, diagnostic services, psychiatric consults and prescription assistance program.

Visitor Information
Families and significant others are crucial to the treatment process. That’s why we provide basic family education about mental illness and how families can positively influence the life of the person living with mental illness.
Visitation Hours (for inpatient psychiatric services):
Monday–Friday, 6–7 p.m.
Weekends and holidays, 3–4 p.m.
Visits during COVID
Due to the COVID-19 Pandemic, please schedule your visit with a facility social worker.
Normal visitation hours will resume once health authorities classify the COVID Community Transmission level as “low”.
Volunteer
Volunteer at Rio Grande State Center! Whether it’s for a day or a long-term basis, we welcome individuals and groups to volunteer at our campus for a variety of opportunities, including:
- Helping with events, such as music festivals, dances, or holiday celebrations.
- Landscaping, painting, or interior decorating.
- Teaching art or music.
- Helping with recreational activities like playing games or reading.
