Transportation for Indigent Cancer Patients

The Transportation for Indigent Cancer Patients program provides transportation services to indigent cancer patients from their residence to a regional or distant cancer referral institution, including cancer facilities in the program area. 

TICP operates in Cameron, Hidalgo, Jim Hogg, Nueces, Starr, Webb, Willacy and Zapata counties. TICP is not available outside of these service areas. 

You might be able to get TICP, if you are: 

  • Living in one of the counties listed above
  • An indigent cancer patient
  • Not eligible for Medicaid or the Children with Special Health Care Needs program
  • In need of transportation services to your cancer treatments 

What does it mean to be indigent?

Indigent patients are people who don’t have health insurance but are not eligible for Medicaid or CSHCN. 

For TICP, you must be medically indigent or meet the following income requirements:

For families/households with more than eight people, add $4,720 for each additional person.

These rates reflect Federal Poverty Guidelines that were updated effective January 12, 2022.

How do I get TICP?

You must reside in one of the counties TICP operates in Cameron, Hidalgo, Jim Hogg, Nueces, Starr, Webb, Willacy and Zapata counties. 

To apply for TICP, call us and we’ll send you an application.

  • Confirmation of a cancer or rule out cancer diagnosis by a medical authority near your home 
  • Confirmation you have been accepted for evaluation or treatment by an intercounty or interregional referral institution capable of providing quality cancer services
  • An ID, such as your driver’s license or passport 
  • Proof of residence in an eligible county, such as a utility bill under your name
    • If you are living with a family member, they should submit the proof of residence and a written letter verifying you live with them.
  • Proof of income
