Texas Autism Research and Resource Center Training Opportunities

The Texas Autism Resource and Research Center (TARRC) is provided by the Texas Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC) to support Texans on the autism spectrum and their families.

Autism Spectrum Disorder Recognition and Response Training for First Responders

HHSC offers an online Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) Recognition and Response Training for First Responders for law enforcement, fire and rescue personnel, and emergency medical services. First responders are trained to effectively address the unique communication and behavioral needs of people with ASD in daily encounters and emergency situations. The training is free to first responders.

The Texas Community Assessment and Planning Toolkit for Autism Services

The Texas Autism Research and Resource Center, in collaboration with community leaders, created the Community Assessment and Planning Toolkit (PDF) in 2012. The toolkit is a resource to assess and, where necessary, plan to improve the way a community welcomes and supports Texans with autism spectrum disorder and other disabilities, as well as identify how those people contribute to their community.

The toolkit provides an open-ended planning process that encourages a shared vision for the future, incorporating multiple perspectives from community stakeholders to develop a meaningful plan of action.
