This third biennial submission of the Pediatric Tele-Connectivity Resource Program for Rural Texas (Pedi Tele-Conn Program) report includes updated and new information (since the December 2020 report) on grants awarded to nonurban healthcare facilities to implement telemedicine services that connect these facilities to pediatric specialists and pediatric subspecialists who provide telemedicine services. The report discusses the outcome of 2020-21 biennium grants program projects, responses to the 2022-23 biennium grants program request for applications (RFA), and program implementation challenges and lessons learned.

This report provides an update on implementation of the Pediatric Tele-Connectivity Resource Program for Rural Texas, stakeholder response to the new resource program, the related telemedicine pilot project, HHSC’s next steps, and an update on the telemedicine landscape from the rural healthcare provider perspective.

This report provides an overview of the collaborative efforts of HHSC and the stakeholder community in support of bridging the gap to pediatric specialty care through the use of telemedicine in rural Texas. It includes information on the establishment of a stakeholder workgroup, a pilot telemedicine project and the educational, technical and planning considerations involved with achieving positive outcomes and effecting meaningful knowledge transfer.
