Long-acting Reversible Contraception
Long-acting reversible contraception (LARC) is a highly effective contraceptive option with high rates of patient satisfaction and method continuation.
For more information on implementing the Texas Medicaid policy on providing LARC services, see the Texas LARC Toolkit (PDF).
Perinatal Mental Health and Substance Use Disorders
The Texas Department of State Health Services and Texas Maternal Mortality and Morbidity Review Committee (MMMRC) have found that mental health conditions, including substance use, are the most frequently observed leading cause of pregnancy-related death in Texas. The MMMRC recommends maternal health care providers be trained on appropriate diagnosis, referral, and treatment for perinatal mood and anxiety disorders. It also recommends providers have access to behavioral health care providers through networks such as the Perinatal Psychiatric Access Network (PeriPAN) for consultations on care management for pregnant and postpartum patients.
The PeriPAN Perinatal Mental Health Toolkit for Obstetrician Clinicians is a resource for perinatal care providers with actionable information to build capacity for preventing, identifying, treating, and monitoring perinatal mood and anxiety conditions.
