The Epilepsy Program works with providers and clinics in Texas to ensure eligible Texas residents with epilepsy or seizure-like symptoms can get comprehensive outpatient services to prevent, detect and treat health problems.
Comprehensive outpatient care can include:
- Diagnosis and treatment
- Case management for ongoing care
- Integration of personal, social and vocational support services
Health care providers play an essential role in recognizing, treating and managing epilepsy. This webpage informs them about latest epilepsy treatment guidelines, seizure classifications, programs that address mental health problems, and how to help pediatric patients transition to adult care.

Epilepsy Program Policy Manual
To view the rules, go to the Texas Administrative Code on the Secretary of State's Website.
In accordance with Government Code §2001.039, Epilepsy Services rules underwent a mandatory four-year review. Community Health Services staff identified opportunities to streamline and clarify the rules language and made the rules more consistent with other CHS programs, using language more appropriate for inclusion into a policy manual. The DSHS Council and HHSC approved the repealed and new language in October 2006.
