The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services published its memorandum, QSO-24-08-NH, announcing guidance for enhanced barrier precautions (EBP) to prevent the spread of multidrug-resistant organisms.
Memorandum Summary
- CMS is issuing new EBP guidance to align with nationally accepted standards.
- EBP recommendations now include use of EBP for residents with chronic wounds or indwelling medical devices during high-contact resident care activities, regardless of their multidrug-resistant organism status.
- The new guidance is being incorporated into F880 Infection Prevention and Control.
The effective date for this guidance is April 1, 2024.
