CMS Approves Extension of Blanket Waiver Related to Texas Temporary Nurse Aides

The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services notified providers and states on April 7 that the blanket waiver related to 42 CFR Section 483.35(d) will end on June 6 (QSO-22-15-NH & NLTC & LSC), with a transition period through Oct. 6.

Texas HHSC requested a statewide extension of the blanket waiver related to temporary nurse aides. CMS approved Texas HHSC’s request for a statewide extension of the 1135 waiver of the requirements contained in 42 CFR Section 483.35(d) Training and Certification of Nurse Aides for Skilled Nursing Facilities/Nursing Facilities.

The approval is valid until April 5, 2023 (180 Days) or the end of the public health emergency (whichever date comes first) for Texas. This only applies to temporary nurse aides working in or employed by a nursing facility.
