NFs May Get CMS Onsite Visit for Minimum Staffing Requirements Research Study

The Centers for Medicaid and Medicare Services will conduct a new, mixed methods research study to assess minimum staffing requirements. CMS is still working on the final methodology for the study.

Texas nursing facilities may be selected for an onsite visit via a contracted research team for the study. The research team will contact the NF directly to set up a visit. Texas NFs are urged to cooperate with CMS research teams and participate in the research study.

CMS intends to host a listening session in August and encourages any interested stakeholders to attend. The details will be available soon.

CMS will consider input from stakeholder listening sessions for both the upcoming study and proposals.

This new study, along with numerous comments received during the Request for Information on minimum staffing requirements in April, will be used to draft proposals on minimum staffing requirements in NFs in 2023.

HHSC will send another GovDelivery email to stakeholders as soon as info becomes available.
