During Direct Support Professional Recognition Week, observed Sept. 12—18, HHS celebrates the hard work and dedication of direct support staff who care for people with disabilities.

“Every day, thousands of Texans with disabilities rely on this workforce across our various HHS community-based waiver programs and services,” said HHSC Office of Disability Services Director Clair Benitez. “Their impact and commitment to so many must be recognized and celebrated.”

Health and Specialty Care System Deputy Executive Commissioner Scott M. Schalchlin praised the important work of direct support staff and psychiatric nursing assistants across Texas.

“They provide the vital daily support needed by our patients and residents, ensuring our services are of the highest quality,” Schalchlin said. “These frontline staff at our facilities continually rise to every challenge they face, and I am so proud of how they always come through with professionalism, compassion and dedication to our mission.”
