Preceptor Application (Initial and Renewal)

  • Requirements: A licensee seeking to sponsor or provide supervision to an Administrator in Training (AIT), must apply to become a certified preceptor. This process must be completed for each of the two years the NFA would like to be a preceptor.
  • License/Work History: Applicants must have an NFA license in good standing or an HSE license for a minimum of five years, with the two most recent years in Texas.
  • Preceptor Training: Applicant must complete the Texas Health and Human Services Commission-approved Preceptor Training. The current cost of the training course is $15.
  • Submit an Application Through TULIP: Log in to TULIP to create an applicant registration and to complete a Preceptor application. There is no cost for the preceptor certification.
    • Documents tab: Upload proof of completion of Preceptor Training.
    • HHSC staff will review the application. If they find deficiencies, they will place the application in Response Required status so the applicant can make corrections.
  • Denial May Be Based On:
  • Certificate Issued: Once approved, HHSC will issue a preceptor certificate, and the NFA may act as a preceptor for two years from that date. The NFA must reapply every two years to continue to be a certified preceptor.
    • The NFA will receive an auto reply from TULIP and can print their certificate from TULIP.
