Dave Nelson is the director of communications for the Texas Health and Human Services Commission. He oversees the agency’s press, web services, design and outreach, translations, video and editorial services operations.
Nelson has more than three decades of experience in communications and state government. Nelson joins the agency from the Texas Senate where he worked as a communications director, chief of staff and director of the Senate Finance Committee. Before that, he was a reporter and editor at Texas newspapers, including the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, Lubbock Avalanche-Journal and Denton Record-Chronicle.
Nelson earned a bachelor’s degree in communication from Southern Methodist University.
