Facility Surveyor and Investigator Opportunities

Work Where You Make a Difference

Along with highly competitive benefits, the Texas Health and Human Services Commission can offer you a rewarding career with a strong sense of mission –  to protect the health and safety of individuals receiving long-term care in settings such as nursing homes and assisted living facilities.

We are actively recruiting two types of positions statewide: surveyors and provider investigators. Please watch the videos below to learn more about these positions – you’ll see current staff in the field explaining why they love what they do even as they face challenges.

Surveyors can be nurses, social workers, dieticians, pharmacists or generalists. Nursing positions are available for LVNs and RNs who have at least one to two years of experience in a clinical setting, and we offer registered nurses (RNs) a starting annual salary of $70,000.

Surveyors work on-site in mobile, regional teams to conduct inspections to ensure long-term care providers are complying with state and federal health and safety regulations.

Provider investigators also are in the field and mobile, but they are focused more specifically on investigating allegations of abuse, neglect, or exploitation of the vulnerable individuals receiving long-term care in Texas.

HHSC offers excellent benefits, including:

  • Career advancement.
  • Paid training.
  • Health and dental insurance.
  • Generous vacation and sick leave.
  • State pension upon retirement for staff who qualify.
