The Texas Electronic Benefit Transfer (EBT) system uses the Lone Star Card to provide access to Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) food benefits and Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) cash benefits.
The Lone Star Card is used in the same way any other debit card is used. To pay for approved SNAP or TANF items, swipe your Lone Star Card through the store's machine and enter your personal identification number (PIN). The amount of the purchase is taken out of your Lone Star Card account.
If you apply and are eligible for TANF or SNAP benefits, you will receive a Lone Star Card from your local Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC) benefit office or by mail. To learn more your EBT Lone Star Card, visit the Lone Star Card - FAQs page or view the Lone Star Card brochure.
Managing your benefits and Lone Star card is easy with the Your Texas Benefits mobile app, YourTexasBenefits.com, and the Lone Star Helpdesk.
The app and website provides easy and secure online access to benefits, including SNAP, TANF, Medicaid, and Children's Health Insurance Program (CHIP). To see if you might be eligible for benefits or to locate an HHSC office in your area, download the Your Texas Benefits mobile app or visit YourTexasBenefits.com. The Your Texas Benefits app is available to download on Android or Apple devices.
With a Your Texas Benefits account you can check your Lone Star Card balance, view recent card activity, manage your PIN, freeze and unfreeze your card, and request a new card using the Your Texas Benefits app.. Visit YourTexasBenefits.com to view your balance or recent purchases. If you do not have an account, you can set one up on the app or YourTexasBenefits.com.
Texas HHS does not support using another website or mobile app to check your Lone Star Card balance or review card activity, and doing so could expose you to security or fraud risks. If you have any questions about using the Lone Star Card call the Lone Star Help Desk at 800-777-7328.
